In preparation for Windows 11, HP will be launching a handful of laptops with the new OS pre-installed. One of these models will be the affordable 14-inch HP 14 that is expected to come in cheaper than most other initial Windows 11 laptops when they become available this October.

A unique feature of the HP 14 will be its Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 ARM processor instead of the usual x86 on 99 percent of Windows PCs. Windows has always had a shaky relationship with ARM CPUs, but the HP 14 is proof that Microsoft isn't planning on giving up just yet. While we expect battery life to be through the roof — 11.5 hours of video playback according to the manufacturer — we'll just have to see for ourselves if raw performance will be up to everyday tasks.

Everything else about the laptop will be fairly low-end to reflect the entry-level price point. The 8 GB of soldered RAM, 128 GB eMMC storage, and 1080p display with only 45 percent NTSC color coverage are not anything to write home even when compared to the some newer Pavilion models. HP says the final price of the HP 14 will not be made public until closer to launch.

AMD: Ready to build Arm-based processors for customers

In addition, AMD has developed ARM-based embedded microcontrollers (mainly used for processor security hardening), as well as the K12 architecture led by Jim Keller. Of course, its K12 architecture has never entered the market, and it has been used in TrustZone microcontrollers including security processors.

It is worth mentioning that Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger opened the IDM 2.0 mode after taking office, and announced that it will provide third-party manufacturers with the foundry of Arm, RISC-V and other chips, but so far Intel and AMD have not confirmed them.
