ARM has just announced the new Cortex-X2, A710, and A510 CPUs along with new Mali GPUs. These new processors arrive as the company seeks to shift to 64 bit only architecture by the year 2023. This also marks the company moving forward with the ARMv9 from the older ARMv8. With the new architecture, the company […]

HP 14 laptop will marry a Snapdragon 7c ARM processor with Windows 11 when it launches this October (Source: HP)The budget 14-inch laptop launches this October with just 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB eMMC for a presumably affordable starting price. It's going to have a lot to prove as Windows laptops running on ARM have never worked out very well in the past.
In preparation for Windows 11, HP will be launching a handful of laptops with the new OS pre-installed. One of these models will be the affordable 14-inch HP 14 that is expected to come in cheaper than most other initial Windows 11 laptops when they become available this October.
A unique feature of the HP 14 will be its Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 ARM processor instead of the usual x86 on 99 percent of Windows PCs. Windows has always had a shaky relationship with ARM CPUs, but the HP 14 is proof that Microsoft isn't planning on giving up just yet. While we expect battery life to be through the roof — 11.5 hours of video playback according to the manufacturer — we'll just have to see for ourselves if raw performance will be up to everyday tasks.
Everything else about the laptop will be fairly low-end to reflect the entry-level price point. The 8 GB of soldered RAM, 128 GB eMMC storage, and 1080p display with only 45 percent NTSC color coverage are not anything to write home even when compared to the some newer Pavilion models. HP says the final price of the HP 14 will not be made public until closer to launch.

AMD: Ready to build Arm-based processors for customers
2021-09-22 10:38 HKT
IT House News on September 21 began with Nvidia's acquisition of Arm last year for 40 billion U.S. dollars, and the trend has gradually spread to more vendors and platforms. Digitimes reported that Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) will also promote Arm-based processors.
IT Home learned that AMD's Chief Financial Officer Devinder Kumar said at the Deutsche Bank Technology Summit that if customers have demand, the company can “ready to produce ARM chips at any time”. He believes that AMD is very good at various computing systems and has invested in it, but at the moment, x86 is still a better solution.
In fact, AMD is not zero experience on ARM. As early as 2013, AMD planned an Arm chip code-named Seattle to replace the Jaguar-based Opteron chip used to fight Intel Atom at the time, but Seattle was also ill-fated
In addition, AMD has developed ARM-based embedded microcontrollers (mainly used for processor security hardening), as well as the K12 architecture led by Jim Keller. Of course, its K12 architecture has never entered the market, and it has been used in TrustZone microcontrollers including security processors.
It is worth mentioning that Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger opened the IDM 2.0 mode after taking office, and announced that it will provide third-party manufacturers with the foundry of Arm, RISC-V and other chips, but so far Intel and AMD have not confirmed them. Are there currently any ongoing ARM projects?
