BD Core (Bulldozer core/module)
CMT (Clustered Multi-Thread)
ALU (An arithmetic logic unit)
AGU (Address generation unit)
From the CPU's perspective,
a thread (short for "thread of execution") is merely an ordered sequence of instructions that tells the computer what to do.
I prefer to speak of "instruction streams" instead of "threads,"
The disadvantage for CMT is a greater number of idle integer execution units in a single threaded case.
In the single threaded case, CMT is limited to use at most half of the integer execution units in its module.

The AMD Zen claims to be the most powerful desktop CPU that will conquer the tech industry in the few years.
It is said to run more than the high clock speed that everyone would expect when it comes to processor performance.
The upcoming AMD Zen CPU will be competing against the famous Intel Core i7 series, which is known to be the fastest,
most reliable and most powerful processor at this moment. The AMD Zen architecture will feature a huge clock speed rate with its new chipset.
A massive 8-Core SKU, running at the default 3.15GHz clock speed is the main weapon of the new AMD Zen CPU.
But AMD is not done yet, the AMD Zen is capable of boosting its speed up to 3.6GHz.
It is pretty amazing to know that AMD could release the most energetic 8-Core SKU in the market soon.
On the other hand, there is also a 4-Core AMD Zen CPU. A minimum 2.9GHz will be featured as it can also boost up to 3.4GHz while using a 65W TDP.
As we can see, AMD is creating a CPU that runs fast as a lightning without increasing the electrical power consumption.
AMD Zen is set to launch in the mid of 2017. AMD aims to beat the Intel when it comes to processing speed, performance, durability and price.

Leaked Geekbench Results: AMD Zen Performance Extrapolated ( ข้อมูลเก่า )
Basically all of the other compute task based tests show the advantage going to Intel's Xeon processor running at 3.6 GHz.
On average, if these results are at all indicative of what AMD Zen will be in the next 4 months, then it will be ~70-80% of the IPC of Ivy Bridge.
The results from the AMD Zen processor running at 1.44 GHz as reported by Geekbench. (แล้วมา x Clock ให้เท่า Ivy เพื่อเปรียบเทียบ)

Zen also features simultaneous multi-threading, or SMT, similar to Intel's HyperThreading.
To put it simply, SMT works by leveraging unused processor resources to execute two threads on a single, physical core.
There are often gaps in utilization, as AMD puts it, in a high-performance processor core.
SMT exploits those gaps to help execute additional threads.
AMD says Zen is here, 8-core Summit Ridge is strong and their CPU architecture is back competitive with their fierce rival Intel. Here's a first look - Page 2
และ
SMT and Power Management Behind "Kaby Lake" and "ZEN" Windows 10 Restrictions
AMD "ZEN" processors introduce simultaneous multi-threading, a feature that exposes each physical core as two logical CPUs to the OS, for better utilization of on-die resources. Intel's implementation of SMT is the HyperThreading Technology (HTT), and has been around for over a decade.
AMD's SMT implementation isn't identical to that of HyperThreading,
with the two threads on a CPU competing for resources in a method unique to AMD.
This can't work without the OS kernel and scheduler being aware of the method.
You'll remember that Microsoft had to update the kernel and scheduler of Windows 7 in a similar way, to optimize it for "Bulldozer."
This technology is transparent to operating systems and programs. The minimum that is required to take advantage of hyper-threading is symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) support in the operating system, as the logical processors appear as standard separate processors.
(
It is possible to optimize operating system behavior on multi-processor hyper-threading capable systems. For example,
consider an SMP system with two physical processors that are both hyper-threaded (for a total of four logical processors).
If the operating system's thread scheduler is unaware of hyper-threading, it will treat all four logical processors the same.
If only two threads are eligible to run, it might choose to schedule those threads on the two logical processors
that happen to belong to the same physical processor;that processor would become extremely busy while the other would idle,
leading to poorer performance than is possible by scheduling the threads onto different physical processors.
This problem can be avoided by improving the scheduler to treat logical processors differently from physical processors;
in a sense, this is a limited form of the scheduler changes that are required for NUMA systems.

Microsoft recently sparked a stir when it was reported that the company will support upcoming CPU architectures by Intel and AMD only on Windows 10, with the keyword being "support" and not "compatibility." This means that Microsoft will offer customer-support and likely serve updates to Intel "Kaby...
