A-5VL Integrated Stereo Amplifier
Sophisticated Audio Processing in a Space-Saving Design
Beneath the A-5VL?s slim and elegant exterior lies a surprising amount of amplification muscle. You might wonder how Onkyo managed to incorporate the functionality of a pre- and power amp into such a slender integrated package. The key is the A-5VL?s extremely energy-efficient design. Because it produces much less heat than a typical amplifier, the A-5VL requires only a small heat sink. This leaves ample space for a range of precision-crafted audiophile-grade parts, such as specially audio-tuned capacitors and thick, low-impedance copper bus plates. The A-5VL employs Onkyo?s exclusive VLSC? technology to ensure a smooth, pulse noise-free signal during conversion from digital to analog. You?ll enjoy precise and faithful reproduction of any audio source, whether it?s a CD, a tuner, or a turntable. As the A-5VL is also compatible with Onkyo?s optional RI (remote interactive) Docks for the iPod, you also have the convenience of controlling playback of your iPod via the amplifier?s remote controller.

High-Grade Build Quality
The A-5VL is designed from the bottom up to prevent unwanted noise and vibrations from tainting your precious audio signals. For a start, the highly rigid chassis and aluminum front panel create a sturdy exterior that can withstand shelf-borne vibrations. Inside the A-5VL, custom-designed, audiotuned capacitors help regulate the power supply driving your audio signals. What?s more, the A-5VL employs separate transformers for the left and right audio channels. Finally, gold-plated, banana plugcompatible terminals ensure a clean signal transfer to your speakers.
VLSC? (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry)
In conventional digital-to-analog conversion methods, it is impossible to completely remove noise, which taints the analog signal and ultimately degrades the sound emitted from your speakers. With Onkyo?s VLSC, data is continuously sampled between two discrete points (via a signal comparison generator), and the difference is joined with analog vectors in real-time to produce a smooth output waveform. The VLSC digital-toanalog conversion method results in a smooth, virtually pulse noise-free audio signal that faithfully reproduces the acoustic detail and subtle nuances of all your audio sources, and breathes life into digital media.
Burr-Brown 192 kHz/24-Bit DACs
The A-5VL incorporates high-quality 192 kHz/24-bit Burr-Brown digital-to-analog converters. These industry-benchmark DACs employ an advanced Texas Instruments architecture (PCM1796) to achieve excellent dynamic performance and improved tolerance to clock jitter.
Optimum Gain Volume Control Circuitry to Preserve Signal Purity
Conventional volume-attenuation methods involve initially dropping a signal close to the noise floor at low volumes. The signal may then be tainted with noise, which subsequently gets amplified along with the signal. Onkyo?s Optimum Gain Volume Control Circuitry adjusts the gain so that less than half the typical amount of attenuation is necessary. The signal never comes close to the noise floor, thus averting the possibility of the noise found in conventional designs.
Thick, Low-Impedance Copper Bus Plates for Perfect Grounding
To provide continuous output at full-power, an amplifier requires a large, stable flow of current. Any excess impedance of power at the output stage becomes a hindrance to the instantaneous flow of that current. That?s why the A-5VL employs thick (1.5 mm x 5 mm) copper bus plates to achieve an extremely low level of impedance. By contrast, a typical printed circuit board uses beaten copper to deliver its current. As this beaten copper is extremely thin?as thin as 35 ?m?it creates a high level of impedance that compromises the quality of the signal output.
iPod Playback Through Onkyo?s RI (Remote Interactive) System
With Onkyo?s RI system, you can connect other Onkyo components to the A-5VL and operate them through a single remote control. RI capability also gives you the opportunity to integrate the iPod with the A-5VL through an Onkyo RI Dock for the iPod.
