ก่อนเปิดตัวอย่างเป็นทางการในงาน E3 ช่วงเดือนมิถุนายน ในตอนนี้ข้อมูลสเป็คของเครื่องเล่นเกม Xbox รุ่นใหม่ ที่มีชื่อเล่นว่า Durango จาก Microsoft ก็หลุดออกมาทั้งยวงผ่านเว็บ VGLeaks
Durango ใช้หน่วยประมวลผลแบบ 8 คอร์ ความเร็ว 1.6GHz มาพร้อมแรมแบบ DDR3 ขนาด 8GB และแรมแบบ ESRAM อีก 32MB ส่วนด้านกราฟิก ใช้ตัวประมวลผลความเร็ว 800MHz ซึ่งตามแหล่งข่าวอ้างว่าสามารถทำงานได้เต็มประสิทธิภาพถึงระดับ 1.2 teraFLOPS
ตัวเครื่องมีหัวอ่านแผ่น Blu-ray ขนาดความจุ 50GB สามารถเชื่อมต่อสาย Gigabit Ethernet และรองรับ Wi-Fi นอกจากนี้ยังมีการระบุถึงฟีเจอร์กรองสัญญาณสะท้อนของ Kinect ที่ใช้งานควบคู่กันด้วย

เว็บไซต์ของนิตยสาร EDGE ได้เผยแพร่บทความจากแหล่งข่าวนิรนามถึงเครื่อง Xbox รุ่นใหม่ว่า ตัวเครื่องนั่นจะไม่สามารถเล่นแผ่นเกมมือสองได้ รวมไปถึงจะต้องต่ออินเตอร์เน็ตตลอดเวลาที่ใช้งานอีกด้วย
อย่างไรก็ตามแม้ว่าจะถูกบังคับให้ต่ออินเตอร์เน็ตตลอดเวลา แต่แหล่งข่าวได้ระบุว่าตัวเครื่องนั้นจะยังคงใช้แผ่นเกมอยู่ ไม่ได้บังคับให้ผู้ใช้ต้องซื้อเกมผ่านอินเตอร์เน็ตอย่างเดียว ซึ่งแผ่นเกมของ Xbox รุ่นใหม่นั้นจะประกอบไปด้วยแผ่น Blu-ray 50 GB พร้อมกับ Activation codes ที่ป้องกันให้เฉพาะผู้ซื้อเกมมือแรกเล่นได้เท่านั้น
ส่วนของสเปคเครื่องนั้นก็เหมือนกับข่าวลือก่อนหน้านี้ คือจะใช้ CPU ของ AMD 8 คอร์ ความถี่ 1.6GHz และชิปกราฟิกที่รองรับ Direct X11.x ทำงานที่ความถี่ 800MHz พร้อมกับแรม DDR3 8GB ส่วนขนาด Hard Drive นั้นยังไม่แน่ชัดว่าจะใช้ขนาดความจุเท่าไหร่ แต่น่าจะมีขนาดใหญ่มากพอเท่าที่จะใส่ในเครื่องคอนโซลปัจจุบันได้
สำหรับในส่วนของการพัฒนาเกมนั้น ทางแหล่งข่าวได้ระบุว่าประสิทธิภาพของเครื่อง Xbox รุ่นใหม่นั้นจะด้อยกว่าเครื่อง PlayStation 4 ของทาง Sony โดยทางสตูดิโอที่ผลิตเกมให้ Microsoft นั้นถูกบีบบังคับให้ใช้งาน Libraries ที่มีอยู่อย่างจำกัด แต่ในขณะที่เครื่อง PlayStation 4 นั้นอนุญาติให้นักพัฒนาเกมสามารถเข้าถึงได้มากกว่า เท่านั้นยังไม่พอ OS ที่ Microsoft เลือกที่จะติดตั้งให้กับเครื่อง Xbox รุ่นใหม่นั้นก็มี Overhead ที่สูงกว่าอีกด้วย โดยรวมจึงทำให้ดูเหมือนว่านั้นเครื่อง PlayStation 4 ดูจะได้เปรียบมากกว่าในขณะนี้

Durango brings the enhanced capabilities of a modern Direct3D 11 GPU to the console space. The Durango GPU is a departure from previous console generations both in raw performance and in structure.
The following table describes expected performance of the Durango GPU. Bear in mind that the table is based only on hardware specifications, not on actual hardware running actual code. For many reasons, theoretical peak performance can be difficult or impossible to achieve with real-world processing loads.
