  • First AMD Llano ?A8-3800? Pictures and Benchmarks Exposed, Overclocked to 3.0Ghz on 1

Update: The Forum member just reported a BIOS glitch which i mentioned in the Article, The chip is actually running at 3.0Ghz rather then 5.4Ghz.

A Forum member over at Coolaler.com has managed to get his hands on an AMD Llano ?A8-3800? chip which is a Quad Core Variant of AMD?s upcoming Mainstream Desktop APU (Accelerated Processing Units) Lineup. The user has posted tons of pictures of the CPU along with the Gigabyte?s GA-A75-UD4H motherboard on which he tested, There?s a whole bunch of benchmarks the guy posted which are detailed below. The user used the following test rig for the demonstration:

    CPU: AMD Llano A8-3800
    CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster V6GT
    RAM: GSKILL DDR3 1600 2GBx2
    MB: GIGABYTE GA-A75-UD4H
    VGA: Built-in HD 6550D
    HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB
    PSU: Tt 1350W
    OS: Windows 7 64bit

The user showed a whole lots of pics of the BIOS interface of the motherboard which features adjustable multiplier, FSB, voltage and even a Performance Boost multiplier. The motherboard can also adjust the Graphics core clock of the embedded Radeon ?6550D? chip on the CPU. The A8-3800 chip features a stock core clock of 2.4Ghz which can turbo to 2.7Ghz however the user did mention that a certain glitch made CPU-z show a different clock speeds of 5.4Ghz. But it is confirmed by AMD that the 2.4Ghz (2.7Ghz T.C) are the official speeds at 0.992V with 1MBx4 L2 cache (No L3 Cache). The user also overclocked the chip to 3Ghz on a Vcore of 1.2V and did a little comparison on stock and overclocked speeds.

The Radeon ?6550D? chip was maintained at a core clock of 440mhz and 800mhz for the memory, The chip was also overclocked during the later benchmarks to show the comparison. You can check out the benchmark scores and pictures below:

    Super Pi (1M) ? 54.382 sec (Stock) / 23.958 sec (3Ghz)
    Super Pi (8M) ? 10m 38 sec (Stock) / 4m 25 sec (3Ghz)
AIDA64 memory bandwidth: Read: 8602 MB, Write: 6155 MB, Copy: 9171 MB (Stock) /Read: 8836 MB, Write: 7122 MB, Copy: 10299 MB (3Ghz)
    Nuclearus: 9578 (Stock) / 13061 (3Ghz)
    CINEBENCH R11.5: OpenGL: 28.94 fps CPU: 2.89 pts (Stock) / OpenGL: 30.49 fps CPU: 3.68 pts (3Ghz)
    3Dmark06: 6616 (stock) / 7278 (3Ghz)
    3Dmark Vantage: 4019 (stock) / 4366 (3Ghz)
    3Dmark 11 Extreme Preset: E1764 (Stock) / E1950 (3Ghz)

    Gaming Benchmarks: (Stock)(1920x1080P)

    Street Fighter 4: 50.32 FPS
    Hawx: 54FPS (DX9) / 22FPS (DX10)
    Hawx 2: 46FPS (DX9) / 34FPS (DX11)
    Resident Evil 5: 29.0 (DX9) / 27.4 (DX10)

Looking at the benchmarks we can determine that the Llano APU?s may not feature a faster processor but the embedded radeon chips make them ideal for mainstream 1080P gaming. In all of the games the chip managed to score an AVG fps over 30 on highest resolution. It would have been better if the user posted some comparisons with Intel?s Mainstream Core i3 lineup. However, I was expecting a bit more gain after the overclocking. The Llano APU?s will arrive in Q3 2011 and would be compatible with the Socket FM1 motherboards. You can check out pictures below along with more details on Llano Processors:
