Now, we may only be in April but Intel has already compiled for its partners some slides detailing the features of the 7 Series chips and those slides have found their way online. As seen below, Intel plans to introduce three chips (Z77, Z75 and H77) for consumer systems and three (Q77, Q75 and B77) for business PCs, but we'll focus on the former category as that's what you'll see on most retail boards.
The Z77, Z75 and H77 motherboards will all have display outputs (D-Sub, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort combinations) and will be able to power up to three independent monitors. Support for both Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs is also available, as is support for USB 3.0 (finally!), and for PCI-Express 3.0. These three chipsets will provide four USB 3.0 ports, two SATA 6.0 Gbps and four SATA 3.0 Gbps connectors, and will include a Gigabit Ethernet MAC, an integrated audio codec, eight PCIe 2.0 lanes, and an updated version of the Rapid Storage Technology.
The Z77 and Z75 will support CPU overclocking and will allow for multi-GPU configurations (unfortunately only one card will be able to run at x16 PCIe speed), while the H77 will have to make due 'only' with GPU overclocking and a single PCI-Express slot for a discrete graphics card.
The Z77 and H77 also include the Smart Response Technology which enables users to set up SSD/HDD hybrid storage systems (SRT is making its debut on Z68 boards). As you can see there are quite a few updates with the 7 Series.
