Fusion got another boost in AMD's PR strategy. The long delayed project to fuse CPU and GPU on a since chip, is said to be released in early 2011. AMD wants to send the first samples to partners in late 2010. The new design accumulates about one billion transistors on the chip a die-shot has been released, too. Fusion will be produced in 32 nanometer process. Its CPU will be based on the Phenom II while the GPU is aligned to the current DirectX 11generation.
Apparently the focus is set on notebooks (platforms: Sabine and Brazos) and AMD primarily wants to increase the battery life. But Fusion also shows up on the desktop roadmap in form of the Llano APU, which is expected in 2011 with a DirectX 11 graphics unit and up to four CPU cores. The according platform is called Lynx. In general AMD intends to lower costs with Fusion.
