ก่อนหน้านี้ TSMC’s 40nm fabrication process เคยออกมากล่าวว่า มีปัญหาทางเทคนิคที่ทำให้ผลผลิต ลดลงจาก 60% เหลือ 40% ต่อมาทาง TMSC ได้ออกมาปฏิเสธในเรื่องดังกล่าว
"ผลิตภัณฑ์ที่ผลิตที่ 40nm ไม่ได้มีอัตราผลิตได้น้อยลงอย่างที่เป็นข่าว จริงๆแล้วยังผลิตได้ในอัตราเดิมและเชื่อมั่นว่าอัตราการผลิตจะดีขึ้นในปีหน้า" โฆษกของทาง TMSC กล่าวกับ EETimes
แต่ก็ยังมีข้อสงสัยอยู่ว่าใครกันแน่ที่พูดเรื่องจริง แต่เราแน่ใจว่า TMSC ยังต้องใช้เวลาอีกเยอะเพื่อพัฒนาให้ผลิตภัณฑ์ที่ผลิตด้วยเทคโนโลยี 40nm จะมีอัตราการผลิตสูงขึ้นตามต้องการ
สรุปคือออกมากึ่งปฏิเสธกึ่งรับว่า มีอัตราของเสียอยู่แต่ไม่มากเท่าข่าวลือที่ออกมา
ละคงเป็นอีก1สาเหตุที่ชัดเจนว่าทำไม Fermi จึงต้องเลื่อนการวางตลาดออกไปเพราะผลิตไม่ทันและไม่มากพอต่อความต้องการ
TSMC Refutes 40nm Yield Drop Rumors

TSMC’s 40nm fabrication process was said to have come across a technical problem, with the yield rate dropping from 60% to 40%, but the company has just denied that.
“The 40nm yield didn’t drop as reported. As a matter of fact, yield on the 40nm process remained flat. TSMC is confident that the 40nm yield will improve at the beginning of next year,” said TSMC’s spokeman, according to EETimes.
It’s really hard to tell who is telling the truth, but there is one thing we can be sure of - TSMC still has a long way to go before improving its 40nm yield rate to an ideal level.
