คาดเอเอ็มดีแยกธุรกิจผลิตชิปลดภาระบริษัท

สื่อต่างประเทศรายงาน เอเอ็มดี (Advanced Micro Devices) จะประกาศแผนการ spin off หรือการแยกธุรกิจการผลิตชิปออกไปดำเนินการเป็นบริษัทต่างหากในวันอังคารนี้ (7) เชื่อจะเป็นหนึ่งในแผนปรับโครงสร้างองค์กร ขณะที่อีเบย์ (eBay) ประกาศลอยแพพนักงานแล้ว 1,600 คน คิดเป็น 10 เปอร์เซ็นต์ของพนักงานทั้งหมด

วอลล์สตรีทเจอร์นอล (Wall Street Journal) อ้างข้อมูลจากแหล่งข่าวในบริษัทเอเอ็มดีว่า Dirk Meyer ประธานฝ่ายบริหารของเอเอ็มดีจะแถลงข่าวการปรับโครงสร้างองค์กรครั้งใหญ่ คาดว่าจะเป็นเรื่องการแยกธุรกิจการผลิตชิปออกมาเป็นบริษัทร่วมทุน เพื่อทำหน้าที่ผลิตชิปให้เอเอ็มดีและรับผลิตให้บริษัทอื่นต่อไป

ในวอลล์สตรีทเจอร์นอลอ้างว่า เอเอ็มดีจะร่วมทุนกับกลุ่มทุนของรัฐบาลอาบูดาบี โดยบริษัทใหม่ที่เกิดขึ้นจะซื้อโรงงานผลิตชิปของเอเอ็มดีหลายแห่ง รวมถึงโรงงานขนาดใหญ่ในเยอรมันด้วย

ยังไม่มีรายงานความคืบหน้าหรือการยืนยันข้อเท็จจริงใดในขณะนี้ แต่ปีที่แล้ว กลุ่มทุนของรัฐบาลอาบูดาบีในนาม Mubadala Development Co. เพิ่งเข้ามาซื้อหุ้นของเอเอ็มดีไปแล้ว 8.1 เปอร์เซ็นต์

Could be a violation of the x86 license

Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy said yesterday that the company has "serious questions" about AMD's Abu Dhabi spin off deal.

The companies are bound by a cross-licensing agreement and AMD pays royalties ti Intel for the pleasure of using its x86 tech. Mulloy says Intel has serious questions about the transaction and that it will protect its intellectual property rights.

Intel has asked AMD to go public with the deal, but AMD declined, so Mulloy could not comment the deal in detail.

Intel says will defend patent rights against AMD


SAN FRANCISCO, Oct 7 (Reuters) - Intel Corp said on Tuesday it has "serious questions" about a deal announced by Advanced Micro Devices to spin off its manufacturing business and focus on chip design, and is ready to defend its patents.

Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy said that AMD and Intel have a patent cross-licensing agreement under which AMD pays royalties to Intel.

"Intel has serious questions about this transaction as it relates to the license and will vigorously protect Intel's intellectual property rights," Mulloy said of AMD's announcement.

Mulloy said Intel has asked AMD to make the agreement public but he said it would not, so he was not at liberty to discuss the matter in detail. (Reporting by David Lawsky)
