It certainly took them (where them= hard drive manufacturers) but the first 3.5-inch 1.5TB hard drive has now been finally announced by Seagate. The American company has added this high-capacity model to its Barracuda 7200.11 series of drives and that means it utilizes perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology, has a SATA 3.0 Gbps interface, works at 7200 rpm (rotation per minute) and has 32MB of buffer memory.
In addition to the beefy Barracuda, Seagate has also introduced 500GB 2.5-inch Momentus 5400.6 and Momentus 7200.4 hard drives. Spinning their platters at 5400 and 7200 rpm respectively, the new half-a-terabyte laptop drives have SATA 3.0 Gbps connection interfaces and boast 8 and 16MB of buffer respectively.
Bundled with five years of warranty, the 500 GB Momentus drives and the 1.5TB Barracuda 7200.11 will start shipping in Q4 and August respectively. No word on pricing yet.
