Hey,
If you have time, I wish to call on the great collective wisdom of the all powerful forum to help me troubleshoot this before i loose the last of my sanity lol.
(system specs at bottom if affected)
Randomly my computer has been blue screening at random times with the error code "BSOD win8 "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (storport.sys)".
This has even happened at the logon screen, eg. yesterday 0.2 sec after the picture started scrolling out of the way to type the password, it blue-screened.
I've done quite afew google searches on this but the all powerful google failed me due to many unrelated or poster's not saying the solution they found.
What have I done so far:
1. check bios is up to date (updated when installed win8)
2. Reinstall nvidea graphic's drivers, also upgraded to the newest beta to see if it made a difference from the stable release.
(someone in my google searches said something about it being part of nvidia software).
3. attempt a memtest, still working on that as for whatever reason when i try to boot off a hirens boot cd, i get a error about booting windows lol,
or when i try to boot off a normal memtest disk (freshly burned) I just get a spam of 1004 running down the left of my screen.
Does win8 do something odd to the bios? lol
4. Curse Microsoft as we all know when in dout blame Microsoft cause its always there fault (habit from the early Vista days) .
5. Load back old bios using "Flashback" in the bios options to load Bios 2. (never been used). Booted fine but for some reason I could only see 2 of my 5 hard drives (OS and main game drive's), also my cd drive was missing.
(cheaked in "my computer" and "Disk manager"
Loading back Bios 1 and everything was back.
Didn;t stay in bios 2 to cheak for bluescreen's due to weird drive error
6. Cheak smart data (twice) on everything but SSD (old program didn't dispay them properly).
nothing really poped out as unusual
7. Run SFC /SCANNOW ,
from what i can gather from the log, it mainly just fixed these 2 files
"2012-12-08 0438, Info CSI 00000928 [SR] Repairing corrupted file [ml:60{30},l:58{29}]"\??\C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\en-US"\[l:46{23}]"windows.ui.xaml.dll.mui" from store

Ran test: left a low grapghic's game (Terraria) running for 6 hours while I slept.
Result: no change, Crashed at some point while I was sleeping (was on logon screen when i got up at lunch).
8. Uninstall "intel rapid storage techology enterpise.
The uninstall said to read the readme for uninstalling the driver part, but all the readme ended up getting me to do was change bios sata mode to IDE to AHCI.
result: no change, got a different bluescreen at logon, just missed taking a pic of it but it was something along the lines of "Corrupted driver expool". waiting for next bluescreen to check for usual error.
(should I have bios set as AHCI or IDE?)
EDIT: switched back to AHCI on DarkForceMage's advice.
9. I grabbed the old top fan from another case. i had thrown the case out but kept the big top exhaust fan.
In a attempt to cool ram to cheak if overheat is the cause.
Would this work/ is it close enough to help move heat away from ram? also should I have it as a intake or outtake, (taking into account other fans)

Thanks for any help, will edit in progress as I follow sugestions.
