NVIDIA listened and released a relative performance comparison of their new Turing-based GeForce RTX 2080.

In a wake of a controversial public demos at Gamescom, which were showing relatively poor performance with RTX enabled, NVIDIA decided to cut all speculation and confirm officially that the upcoming series will be 40-50% faster in selected titles.

Additionally, with DLSS enabled (Deep Learning Super Sampling), some supported games will offer even better performance thanks to new antialiasing technology.

As of right now the only cards that will support DLSS would be the GeForce RTX 2070, RTX 2080, and RTX 2080 Ti graphics cards.

Nvidia's RTX 2080 Ti Is TWICE AS FAST as GTX 1080 Ti in games

Using DLSS to create TAA-quality gaming visuals, this demo shows the new feature allows an RTX 2080 Ti to offer twice the frame rate of a GTX 1080 using traditional TAA. That's a 100% frame rate increase compared to around 50% quicker in other areas. (DLSS on the right with RTX 2080 Ti, TAA on the left with GTX 1080 Ti) I apologise for poor quality video. It was shot in very low light and in a hurry - initially we weren't able to show anything from the event today but they sprang this on us last minute. It shows two things though: that image quality is identical and you can clearly see the frame rates.


In the demo above, called Infiltrator, which I videoed at the technical seminar today in Cologne, Germany, in otherwise identical systems, an RTX 2080 Ti using DLSS (on the right) to similar effect as TAA, was twice as fast as a GTX 1080 Ti using TAA (left). You'd expect the new GPU to be faster, but using Nvidia's own numbers, the performance boost over the GTX 1080 Ti is typically up to 50% in games.

DLSS doubles this to around 100% or twice as fast compared to the older GPU using TAA. In fact, there were clear examples that DLSS produced a sharper, more accurate image. Frame rates averaged around 80fps at 4K resolution for the RTX 2080 Ti but only 40fps for the GTX 1080 - figures I saw in person at the event on two identical systems. As you can see above, Nvidia also claims similar performance boosts in PUBG and Final Fantasy XV HDR.
